Westerly Morris Men's Past Public Events in 2024
-
Sunday, February 18, 2024 - The Westerly Morris Men had their first in-person Annual Meeting since 2019! Peter Leibert was reelected to continue as Squire. Ian
Patton was elected as our new Bagman, replacing Everett Munro, who has been our dutiful Bagman for longer than anyone can remember. Thanks, Everett!
The "opportunity to see us part" happened at The Haversham Tavern, where we held our annual dinner. If you were there between 6 and 8 PM, you might have seen us do a couple dances or heard us sing a few songs, including our own "The Church's One Foundation, a.k.a., The Dogs Were Having a Party", which you can access on our singing page. -
Tuesday, March 19, 2024 - The Westerly Morris Men celebrated their 38th Annual Vernal Equinox Dawn Dance
on Lantern Hill in North Stonington, CT (6:51 AM).
Starting n 2020, during leap years only, the Vernal Equinox occurs on March 19 in our time zone, rather than March 20.
On the clifftop, the WMM had 2 musicians (Mayada Wadsworth and A.J. Wright) and 8 dancers. They were joined by 1 dancer each from 2 other teams,
Mystic Garland and the Bouwerie Boys
(on
). Over 70 other people climbed the hill to participate in the festivities, including photographers from 3 newspapers. See our press and video pages for more. At the conclusion of the hike, there were songs and additional dancing at the trailhead, accompanied by current Squire and musician Peter Leibert, who founded the team 50 years ago, in 1974.

Westerly Summer Pops Pre-Show at Wilcox Park
in Westerly, RI - Sunday, June 23, 2024 at 5:00 PM. Dancing without our traditional singing for the first time in about 40 years.
The scheduled performance on Saturday was cancelled almost last-minute due to an incoming thunderstorm, so the rain date was activated for the following day. There was still a threat of storms on Sunday, so the pre-show was moved up from 6:00 to 5:00, then the Pops started immediately afterwards, going straight through without an intermission, finishing up with the 1812 Overture (without the usual cannons that had been present on Saturday) and the national anthem with daytime fireworks, ending at about 7:30 PM. Congratulations to the organizers for squeezing it in! - Guy Fawkes Bonfire Night at Misquamicut Beach in Westerly, RI - Saturday night, October 19, 2024 - 7:00 PM at The Windjammer, 321 Atlantic Avenue
