Westerly Morris Men's Past Public Events in 2021
- Vernal Equinox on Lantern Hill - Saturday, March 20, 2021, at Dawn (6:50 AM)
I tried to keep this event on the down-low, due to the pandemic, inviting the newspapers, but specifically requesting no advance publicity. Even so, we had our biggest turnout in years, in all categories! It included 3 musicians up top (4 below), 7 WMM dancers, 1 Mystic Garland dancer, and about 60 masked revelers. Long-retired former Squire Scott Patton even made an appearance to dance! The actual Vernal Equinox occurred at 5:37 AM EDT that day. The below photos, courtesy of The Westerly Sun, show all 8 dancers performing on the cliff top, then 3 of the 4 musicians playing for the road show later. Visible musicians (L to R) are Squire Peter Leibert, A.J. Wright, and Mayada Wadsworth. Musician Becky Noreen is not visible in this photo. -
May Day
at Connecticut College, New London, CT
- Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Dawn (5:45 AM in New London, CT)
The President of Connecticut College gave the WMM permission to dance at dawn on the campus green, with entry restrictions at the guard gate. Mask-wearing was required while on campus. - George Utter Annual Memorial Birthday Tour at various sites near the Pawcatuck River in CT and RI - Tuesday, June 8, 2021
- Westerly Summer Pops Pre-Show at Wilcox Park - Saturday, September 11, 2021.
(See The Day article from March 24, 2021.)
Pre-show started at 5:15 PM, earlier than its traditional time when Pops was held in June. We had 9 dancers and were hoping to do our much-loved 8-man Litchfield dances, but due to a VERY long time since some of the men had practiced or performed them, we found out during our pre-pre-show rehearsal, it was simply not possible.
- Guy Fawkes Bonfire Night
at Misquamicut Beach in Westerly, RI - Saturday, October 9, 2021
7:00 PM at The Windjammer, 321 Atlantic Avenue
Allen Lawton's report: "And a good time was had by all! A couple of raindrops in the clouds before it started, but then they stayed away, so it was fine to keep it outside. Chilly, though, with a stiff breeze. Peter played some Cajun tunes for the preshow, and then in the show, I did a jig and Peter played part of Maid of the Mill so we could sing the chorus for the fun of it, it went well. Good times!"
